1980s backless Alaïa knit dress with halter neck - XS
beautiful dress from masterful Azzedine Alaïa. made out of a thick knit, the dress features a halter neck with a cross-over front that allows you to determine the desired depth of the plunge. the halter neck in back has extra volume and is meant to be worn "puffy", giving it an amazing and unique line. and then, best of all, is the open back, which paired with a knit fabric, makes a beautiful combination. the skirt is cut simple and midi-length and hugs the body comfortably. a great design element is that the skirt features an internal waistband that's meant to keep the dress up and in place, so that the halter neck isn't weight bearing and can stay effortlessly in its voluminous puffy state. details like this make all the difference and make Alaïa the designer that he was. best dated to late 1980s, possibly Spring 1989 where similar black knit dresses were featured on the runway.
excellent condition. dry-cleaned and ready to be worn.
