very rare F/W 1989-1990 charcoal grey matching set with contrast stitching and shiny silver baubles from sought after designer Patrick Kelly. there are not many pieces in circulation from Patrick Kelly, a self-taught Black American fashion designer from Mississippi who scaled the fashion ranks in Paris, becoming the first American designer to be included in the Chambre syndicale du pret-a-porter, the governing body for the French ready-to-wear industry.

the jacket and skirt walked the runway that year on Iman, and were also featured in the campaign. but I have not seen this particular set with the pants until now.

pants feature a high waist and subtle peg leg, a take on a jodhpur, with the silver baubles running up each leg (baubles are functional buttons). the jacket has an amazing asymmetrical cut, with the rounded shawl lapel on one side and the pointed lapel on the other.

made in France. 95% wool, 5% nylon, acetate lining. best fits US 2-4 (mannequin is a US 2 and it fits well with minor gaping at the pants.
