special set from Miu Miu's Fall 2000 collection, evoking a classic 1940s feel. a variation of the dress walked the runway, while the hat was used pretty much throughout the entire collection, and this exact version of our dress, paired with the hat, was featured in the campaign. the hats had small variations throughout, with the shape changing slightly, but the premise was the same, with that interesting almost chimney like top, and the exaggerated red threading.

the dress is fitted around the waist and has a flowy bias cut skirt. the top is more like a halter, covering each breast and going around the back of the neck, but with the addition of spaghetti straps, and then has a beautiful gathered panel running over the right bust, around the back of the neck like the halter, and back down over the left bust and then diagonal across the middle to fasten over the right hip, the whole in a brown silk with small orange tulips throughout. has a row of concealed snaps on the left side for closure. subtle scalloping along the halter edge and hemline.

very good vintage condition. the panel on the dress was undone and was reattached under the left bust and again at the right hip. the hat has some slight wear, nothing of note, and presents beautifully. dress was dry-cleaned and hat was professionally steamed and re-shaped and both are ready to be worn.

made in Italy. dress is 100% silk and hat is straw. dress is marked size 40, but best fits XS or US 0-2, shown here on US 0 mannequin.
