exquisite jacket from Givenchy's Fall 1996 ready to wear "Matador" collection, the first of only two rtw collections that the designer completed for the house (along with two Haute Couture collections) before being shuffled to Christian Dior and replaced by McQueen. 

the jacket, made of a mauve wool with purple piping, has a decidedly 30s/40s flair and was worn by Kate Moss in a cropped version and in a different colour-way on Carolyn Murphy. beautifully tailored, it follows the contours of the body and, thanks to the contrast piping and ingenious pleating, has a beautiful puffed out effect at the shoulder before going back into a tailored sleeve. the same piping can be seen in a gentle scallop across the back and lining the contours of the pockets. note that the jacket is clamped on the mannequin, reducing slightly the puffed effect at the shoulder, which will resemble more closely the silhouette on the runway on the proper size.

made in France. 100% wool with acetate lining. marked 38, best fits M or US 6-8, shown here clamped on a US 0 mannequin. meant to fit quite close to the body and not oversized due to the cut.
