F/W 1992 Donna Karan by Robert Lee Morris runway gold plated gripoix chain belt and medallion - XS/S/M
beautiful chain belt from the F/W 1992 Donna Karan collection, when artist Robert Lee Morris was responsible for all of Karan's jewelry and hardware. the piece is gold plated, with a large cross medallion accented by glass gripoix, and was featured on the runway that season along with various pieces in a similar style. hook closure, it can be worn as a necklace if desired.
the gold is both matte, with a brushed finish, and radiant, because of a special process that he uses, which he described as follows: "High-karat gold is electroplated on brass, but over a soft nickel. Brass is first tumbled to get a matte finish, then plated in soft nickel, then gold on top of that. The gold is often 24k. Most (conventional jewelry) is plated over a hard nickel, which is too shiny for me".
very good vintage condition. slight wear in spots, but the gold plating remains generally intact throughout. note that the belt is not signed, which was par for the course for many early Donna Karan pieces by Morris - specifically this collection (if paired with leather or another material the material was stamped but not the metal). we have had another necklace from this runway, where the silk choker had the identifying name, and can verify that the metalwork was identical.
