1980s Koos van den Akker straw raffia jacket - S
unique jacket from Dutch designer Koos van den Akker made entirely of a woven straw/raffia textile. the effect that the fabric gives is similar to the sculptural feel of a Pleats Please piece, where you get the soft but dramatic structure harder to re-create in traditional, non manipulated, textile. has a double-breasted closure, two front pockets, a square boxy cut and soft slightly dropped shoulders. one-of-a-kind from a playful, fun designer, who interned with Christian Dior at the start of his career and opened his own label in the 1970s. this piece is best dated to the 1980s.
very good vintage condition. a few small flaws in the straw that are imperceptible and slight fraying in some instances along bottom edge.
no material or size tag present. best fits XS/S or US 0-2-4 as it seems to be meant to be worn loose, which is how you get the best shape from it. shown on US 2 mannequin here.
