1980s Geoffrey Beene embelished off the shoulder mini dress with dramatic cutout at hip - S
beautiful and unique dress from masterful American designer Geoffrey Beene. unlike fellow American designer Victor Costa, whose talent and craftsmanship were top notch but whose fabrics and designs were more run of the mill, Beene's fabrics and unique designs were as good as anything coming out of Europe at the time and a real example of what American designers had to offer.
this dress is best dated to the 1980s, with an off the shoulder neckline, almost meant to resemble a slouchy sweater, where the trim imitates a ribbing on a knit. it is made of a sheer lace layered over a silk slip, with intense embellishment involving cording and sequins throughout. and then, the coup de grace, is that unbelievable cutout at the thigh, going all the way up to the hip, revealing the entire right leg.
very good vintage condition. some slight pulls in the sequins that do not show at all due to the busy nature of the design. slight repair to the seams in the lining. dry-cleaned and ready to be worn.
