F/W 1997 Herve Leger wool and silk runway dress - XS/S
perfect little black dress from Herve Leger's Fall 1997 ready to wear collection. the same dress walked the runway that season but in a grey bust rather than the black like ours and with a longer hem. the dress features a stretch wool top, in the bandage style that the designer became renowned for, paired with a fluttering silk skirt that gathers at the tail bone for a very romantic finish. the defining feature is also the sheer silk 'windows' that run down the front, accentuated by glass buttons.
excellent vintage condition. we managed to complete the set of glass buttons running down the front with two near identical ones. the new ones are the same material, colour and size, but just have a slightly beveled edge at the top. the difference is imperceptible when worn.
made in France. 95% wool 5% elastane and 100% silk lining, which we consider to also mean the skirt, which feels like a crepe silk, as there are no other materials listed. marked FR 38 USA 6. fits like a modern XS/S or US 2-4. there is some stretch to the wool bust and since the skirt is cut on the bias there is some wiggle room in the hips. shown on a US 2 mannequin.
