super special dress from the early years of Tom Ford's much-beloved reign at Gucci. the dress walked the runway that season on Linda Evangelista, was featured front and centre in the campaign, and has been worn recently by celebrities like Miley Cyrus and Lori Harvey. the dress is extremely rare and collectible, one of the more memorable designs from his tenure at the label.

the dress is made of a rayon and silk velvet, where the black backing is silk and the green pile is rayon, and with the burnout technique where the pile isn't present for large swaths of the fabric. in those areas, you only have the sheer silk chiffon. the dress has a tunic type cut and hangs loose, away from the body, with a low plunge neckline and a Gucci clasp at the bust. the sleeves are slightly fluted, getting larger as they go.

excellent vintage condition, with the following caveat. it appears that the dress may have been shortened from its original length. at its current length, it falls more or less on the mannequin where it did on Evangelista on the runway, and would of course be longer on someone between 5' and 5'4". it appears the sleeve was also shortened slightly. there is enough seam allowance on both the sleeve and the bottom to extend each roughly 1", if desired. alteration reflected in price.

made in Italy. 68% rayon 32% silk. marked 40, fits like XS/S or US 0-2-4, shown here on US 0 mannequin with 32" bust, 24" waist and 33.5" hips.
