1980s James Galanos silk dress with dandelion puff and exaggerated shoulder - XS/S
exceptional evening dress from American designer, who was of Greek heritage, James Galanos. his specialty was high-end, exquisitely crafted evening wear, and he was known to often put out Haute Couture level clothing through his ready-to-wear house. Galanos pieces are beautifully made, of the highest quality materials, but are also highly inventive and creative in design as well.
this dress is exactly that - mid-length, in a sack shape, crafted in layered semi-sheer silk with a gold thread pinstripe. it features a beautiful, unexpected printed dandelion puff across the chest. it also has these amazing satin silk disks at each shoulder, which can be worn up, as we have shown here, by stuffing them with tissue paper, or draped down over the shoulder. the sleeves are also silk satin and have a little bit of volume, finishing off in tight cuffs made of the pinstriped silk at the wrist. has the Galanos tag as well as a Bergdorf tag.
it is possibly from the Fall 1984 collection, where you see the same silk pinstripe and similar shoulders.
excellent vintage condition. no flaws. dry-cleaned and ready to be worn.
