beautiful early Bottega Veneta dress from the F/W 2004 collection, designer Tomas Maier's first ready-to-wear line for the house that was long synonymous with only handbags. a few years had gone by since Edward Buchanan had first introduced clothing to the brand in the late 90s, during which time Bottega Veneta had returned to its accessories only roots, before re-committing to garments again under a new designer for this Fall 2004 collection. Tomas Maier ended up helming the label for 17 years.

the Fall 2004 collection leaned heavily into an art-deco and roaring 20s theme, which you see in the straight cut and drop-waist of this dress. a deep-v neckline and wide, draped sleeve finish off the design, in a beautiful silk blend velvet with tone on tone floral pattern. ever so slightly sheer, with a slit in the skirt. very rare, and very fun to have a dress from the house's rtw beginnings. would make a beautiful dress for a bride's wedding weekend or a more casual wedding as well.

made in Italy. 82% viscose 18% silk. 100% cupro lining. marked 40, best fits XS or modern US 0-2, especially narrow in the hips. shown here on US 0 mannequin, with 32" bust 23.5" waist and 33.5" hips.
