incredible silk velvet jacket from the Fall 1993 Norma Kamali OMO collection, seen on the runway that season. it features an amazing exaggerated spread collar, lined in a creamy white, that lays over the shoulders and back, which can also be folded up and buttoned down to create a huge standing funnel collar instead. the same material lines a portion of the sleeves, which are dramatically  fluted, and extend out at the cuff, allowing to see the contrasting lining inside. it has an empire waist, with four buttons fastening the coat around the chest and letting it drape out below the bust.

the jacket is made of silk velvet, meaning that the backing of the fabric is silk but the pile, meaning the fuzzy portion of the fabric, is rayon. we still refer to this as silk velvet, as it has the same look and feel, but is used much more often than a velvet where the pile and backing are both silk, which is very delicate and fine and might not hold up well as a jacket.

excellent vintage condition. some small signs of wear but nothing specific to note. cleaned and ready to be worn.

made in the USA. 18% silk 82% rayon. lining seems to be an acetate. marked 6, fits a range of sizes due to the cut and style, including US 2-4-6 maybe 8, depending on desired fit and size of bust/shoulder (shown here on a US 2 mannequin).
